Best beaches to visit in Puerto Rico

Updated: Jul 17, 2023

One of the questions we receive daily from our passengers is "what beaches would you recommend us to visit?" This is why we decided to create a blog with recommendations on what to do and what places to visit in Puerto Rico, starting with the beaches because if you go to an island obviously in your to do list going to the beach is a must.

Here are the best beaches to visit in Puerto Rico:

Playa Escambrón, Old San Juan

Recognized as the best beach in the San Juan area where you can swim safely but also snorkel. The main beach (north side) is protected by a coral reef while at Poza Escambrón is where most snorkel activities take place. This beach has a very special meaning for me because it was where I was baptized. In the photo of my baptism you can see how clear the water is in the area of the Poza Escambrón.

They are bathroom and showers facilities. Entrance to the beach is free to the public but keep in mind that there’s a parking fee.

After a day at the beach, we recommend you to refresh yourself with the best coffee and tea blends at La Mezcla Coffee right across from the parking lot entrance.

Playa Puerto Nuevo, Vega Baja

Playa Puerto Nuevo is located on the north side of the island, specifically in Sector Playa in the neighborhood Puerto Nuevo in Vega Baja. This beach is one of the most beautiful in Puerto Rico.

Like Escambron Beach, this beach has facilities for visitors such as parking, restrooms, public showers, and water chairs for people with disabilities. These must be coordinated with the lifeguards who offer service Monday through Sunday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm (during high season).

Keep in mind you’ll need to prearrange your taxi transportation if you are not renting a car.

Many people go up to the rock area to look at the view, we do not recommend doing so, if you do it is at your own risk. The rocks are sharp and slippery.

Seven Seas, Fajardo

The beaches on the east side of the island are my favorite, but Seven Seas is one of my preferred. The water of this beach is a beautiful turquoise color, there is no strong waves and while you are swimming you can find many little fishes so if you have snorkeling equipment I recommend you to take it with you. On this beach there are many trees making it very easy to find some shade to relax. This is the perfect place to disconnect from the noise of the city, believe me, you will be there for hours!

Then you can visit "The House of Pastelillos" where you can taste the best pastelillos in Fajardo and cool off with a delicious piña colada.

There’s a parking lot available (for a fee) and outside showers.

Balneario La Monserrate, Luquillo

If you’re looking cristal clear waters without going too far, La Monserrate Beach should be your choice. The first time we visited, we could not believe that this beautiful beach was hidden behind the Kioskos de Luquillo.

The beach managed by the Puerto Rico Department of Natural Resources facilities include bathrooms, showers, green areas, picnic areas, among others there’s also a parking which prices vary.

What I love the most about this beach is the calm water, the breathtaking view of the Rainforest mountains, and the accessibility to walk towards the Luquillo Kiosks.

Crash Boat, Aguadilla

Last but not least, this gem is one of the best beaches of the west side. It is difficult to find words that do justice to the beauty of this beach. Everything from the trip from San Juan to your arrival at the turquoise waters of Crash Boat will take your breath away, there is so much to see!

In this beach the atmosphere is one of partying, music, you will have the opportunity to do various water sports and enjoy fried foods and drinks at the food kiosks.

diving in Puerto Rico

Here we had the opportunity to dive for the first time, we had a good instructor who explained everything and the experience was wonderful. So if you have never had the experience this is a must do. It was amazing to see so many fish. Now, we had a chance encounter with ocean currents so be aware of the lifeguard alerts and if they ask you to get out of the water, do it.

We recommend arriving early so that you can get a good parking space, as it tends to fill up quickly due to the popularity of this beach and even more so during the high season (summer).

WARNING! Visit them at your own risk. For your safety, check sea conditions before visiting any beach.
